SF Reading List

Joe Haldeman, a guest presenter and author of The Forever War, recently spoke at length at an MIT Conference on Communications about “The Craft of Science Fiction.” In the course of his presentation, Haldeman read from his latest novel The Accidental Time Machine and weighed in on Science Fiction and the topic of war. Some of his most interesting comments were about Robert Heinlein and StarShip Troopers. Haldeman notes that, according to some of his readers, The Forever War was a response to Starship Troopers, and further, Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card was essentially the next novel in an exploration of our evolving notions of war. The moderator mentioned Cory Doctorow’s latest e-book, Andra’s Game, as another level in this list of great SF war reads.
